2015 DevCon Scholarship Award:
Announcing our Runners-Up!
by Molly Connolly and Cris Ippolite
We spent many hours sorting through the applications that came in for the 2015 DevCon Scholarship. Every essay told a story of each developer’s career passions and we found each applicant’s commitment to ongoing FileMaker training very persuasive. Trust us when we tell you that it was a difficult decision to make!
Before we reveal the 2015 DevCon Scholarship winners, we’d like to share the awards given to the two runners-up: Brendan McKenney and Courtney Yuska. McKenney and Yuska both receive a seat in the upcoming JumpStartFM training course. JumpStartFM is a one-month intensive that features some of the best developers in the field. Tuition for the course is $3000, but as runners-up for the 2015 DevCon Scholarship, both Brendan McKenney and Courtney Yuska will be able to attend the next JumpStartFM free-of-charge.
Courtney Yuska will graduate this month with a GPA of 3.9 in Information Technology – Computer Information Systems. No easy feat for a working woman who is also a busy wife and mother of three! At university, Yuska studied two different programming languages and pursued advanced courses in database management. “I fell in love with creating databases,” she told us.
Yuska began working with FileMaker during her professional internship. “I am so impressed with all the capabilities of FileMaker that I want to find a career working with it.”
Brendan McKenney is a pyrotechnics expert and a single father of two. McKenney says, “I’ve been working hard to learn FileMaker on my own, and have been bringing pyrotechnics and FileMaker together in a custom solution to capture and catalog videos of each of our pyrotechnic devices for use during show design.” His ultimate goal is obtain FileMaker certification and build a thriving consultancy business.
The JumpStartFM instructors will work one-on-one with Courtney Yuska and Brendan McKenney; tailoring the program to help them meet their personal goals for FileMaker training. We look forward to the knowledge and experience they will bring to the community, and sharing more about their career development experiences in JumpStartFM.by
